I am on a mission. Searching far and wide, near and far; with a purpose for the greater good; a mission to achieve respectful communication through real conversation, giving birth to understanding both for myself personally, and the millions of others whom also have questions; questions whos answers may hold the secret key to inner peace “no matter whos side you are on, be it left, right or standing strong, straight in the middle, no matter where you are on this big, beautiful planet.”
Because it is beautiful, this earth of ours. And that is something that we all have in common here. No matter the color of your skin or your gender or your ethnic background or your profession or your social status, we ALL live under the same brilliant, gold sun; the same sexy, silvery moon; and walk on the same beautiful planet called Earth. And with that, in my opinion, comes an unwritten obligation to take care of our planet. To recycle. To throw trash in garbage cans rather than on the ground. To not waste water. To not waste energy. To do whatever you can to reduce air pollution. To respect wildlife. To respect each other. To respect Earth.
After all, Mother Earth works in all sorts of mysterious ways to keep the circle of life going ’round and ’round. Everything in nature has a purpose. And it is all about life. The wind. The sun. The rain. The dirt. The snow. The wildflowers. The bees. The worms. Everything. All of these things work together to provide food for us. All of the vegetables and fruits that many people consume. The meat that many people consume. The dairy products that many people consume. It all, in some way shape or form, comes from our Mother Earth. So why is she being taken for granted?
A lot of things are going on in the world right now. There is a lot of ego-induced tension in the atmosphere. People find it easier to argue than to take a deep breath and have that “uncomfortable” conversation and just ask questions, listen to the answers and vice-versa. But people forget that with growth comes a little discomfort. And why would one want to choose to be uncomfortable? Well, because that is what being an adult is about in my opinion. You reach a point where you have to start taking uncomfortable steps in order to achieve personal growth and further your knowledge and enlighten your soul. While we argue and continue to feed the fire, we are forgetting to take care of our Earth, our home. We are so caught up in the daily whirlwind of life that we are ignoring the one who gives US life.
We need to have a conversation. Everyone. We need to put our swords and shields down and pick up our pens and paper up. We need to start talking to one another. Because the only thing worse than arguing is not saying anything at all. When you stay silent, you give up. We need to be brave enough to ask questions and respectful enough to listen and find an answer.
Since the election here in the U.S, I have gone through a wave of emotions. It feels like over a thousand questions have popped in my head, my heart and soul seeking to understand what is happening here. While I search for answers, I can never find any. My questions have always been met with either silence or insults like “go bake a cake and play with your mans dick” and various other insulting names. I just want to pick the brains of people who voted for Trump! I want to not just hear why a person voted for him, but I want to know what they think about his decision to allow the construction of the DAPL pipeline to continue. I want to know what they think about his intentions to build a wall along the US/Mexico border. I want to know what they think about his conflicts of interest. I want to know what they think about him golfing all of the time. I want to know if they think he is a good role model for children. I have lots of questions that are genuinely coming from my heart and I want answers!
So I am stepping out of comfort zone and trying to reach out to people who voted for Trump and see if they are willing to have a conversation and answer some questions and in return perhaps come up with questions for me. I have had one conversation so far. It was a surprising, “being in the right place at the right time” type of situation. I was sitting at the bar at my work one night after my shift and I was enjoying a nice, juicy, ice cold cocktail. Two guys walked in and sat at the bar a few seats down from me. I can’t remember how the conversation started, but we were talking and eventually the conversation turned to politics. One of the gentlemen said to me in an almost shy voice, “Don’t hate me, but I voted for him.” I’m quite sure my eyes popped out of my head. I was not expecting that at all. Both of the men were young, with wonderful vibes and great conversation. They both seemed very open-minded and well traveled. One of them was from a predominately Muslim country in Africa. I had assumed, which was a fuck-up. But now I was deliriously curious. The questions started pouring out and he laughed at me, shaking his head. Then we started a really cool, long, interesting and enlightening conversation. And that is what inspired me to go on this mission. Because I realized that after months of seeing the very ugly side to people who voted for Trump, after months of being very discouraged by my attempts at achieving understanding being met with ultimate disrespect, that not ALL Trump voters were like that. This conversation had lit a flame of hope and inspiration inside of me.
I have a few people whom have reached out to me, willing to participate in a questionnaire that I have created. As I patiently, but anxiously wait for their responses, I can’t help but feel like this is something important. Maybe not to anyone else other than little ol’ me; but it is important. The questions, I have been told, are questions that many others have but perhaps either don’t have the patience or bravery to ask or they can’t even seem to find the words to ask. And one of the most important things? To give others a chance to ask questions in return. So, this is me, on a mission to achieve respectful communication through real conversation.
If you or anyone you know happened to vote for Trump and are willing to participate, please email me at : awakeawareuncensored@yahoo.com While this is the inspiration behind a piece I am writing, no participants names shall be used. Thank you for reading!
